Come to Lhasa, witness a Buddhist scripture debate

If you go to the Tibet, there is a place you should go; there is an activity you should witness; there are some cute people you should know…And all of these are combined with the Buddhist scripture debate among Tibetan monks.

So, what is the debate? It is one kind of study methods about the Tibetan Buddhism. Also it is the way to examine the achievement of the monks. The debate is the biggest characteristic of Tibetan Buddhist. The debate is taken by the excellent monk, the way is various for the different temple, but mainly divided into two forms.

However, what will the debate carry on? At first, they will all come to a place which is special and regular; always it is in the grassland or under the green tree. And then, they will begin their debate. Surely, they are young and fresh, and they will sit down under the green tree with two or three. And the one monk will ask some knowledge about the Buddhism, and the others will answer the question. Then exchange the character, until one of them cannot answer. It is pretty interesting when they are debate, someone is silence at some time, but suddenly is excited. And what is cuter is the action of the monk when they are debating. They have clap after they have get the solution, also, when one of the monk is frustrate, the others will take some action or beat the body of the looser. But it is just a form for inspiring or showing their success. The finally successful monk will be the “doctor”. And the most amusing is the expression when they debate. Majority of them are so young, but they have the enthusiasm and the understanding of the Tibetan Buddhist.

It is said that the debate is from India, and even though you do not understand the language of the Tibet, the scene will make you cannot forget. Maybe you have heard another debate in other place, but the debate in the Sera Monastery is the one you cannot miss.

I have talked so much about the debate, so, how will you get there and have a look about the debate? It is fine; you can easily have the train from Beijing to Lhasa. Also it is convenience for the people who are in south, such as Shanghai, you also can take the train from Shanghai to Tibet. Surely do not worry about your friends who are in foreign city, well, she or he always can have her or his Nepal and Tibet travel easily. And so does the friend who is in Chengdu or Chongqing, you also can take the Qinghai and Tibet railway. And good for the people who is in Xining, you are so near than the others, you also can go board the train from Xining to Lhasa, and I hope all of you will have a special experience about the debate.

There are some monks and tourism come to the Sera Monastery especially for study. There is some reality in the crowd. Although you do not understand the language, you will never regret about your Tibet tour. You can have a period of time in the Lhasa, and get the wash in the temple, have the think by the monk…Carry in your soul, and hear the reality of the debate!
