Strategies for all beer and skittles in Lhasa’s Barkhor

 Journey is like a long march when you decide to make it! There are a lot of boring but necessary things you should do such as Tibetan permit for foreign tourists and Tibet train for you if you want to experience views along the Qinghai-Tibet line.

1.      Jokhang Temple

Barkhor Street is closest to Buddhism holy land; there is no reason that you do not make worship. It opens at seven o’clock in every morning; you should spend 85 Yuan for ticket. You will witness Sakyamuni’s statue in his twelve years old. It is the most exquisite statue among three. Its position is not only supreme, but also it is the treasure.

After you get out from Jokhang temple, you may as well find more interesting worship place near the Barkhor Street. Dan Jielin, speak strictly, it is not on the Barkhor street, but is located on a small alley of Tibetan hospital road. If you want to get there, you must come up two floors. What special part of it is that most of the offerings are beer; and main Buddhism is Dharmakaya samantabhadra, it is pretty difficult to see in other places. Walk on the Barkhor Street in clockwise, there is a low door in bright yellow hall; get into the door. This small temple is called Maitreya temple, it consecrates the Buddhism who controls future. Also, you can come to the second floor to witness big Buddhism’s face clearly.

Dan Jielin and Maitreya temple is free for tourists.

             2. Shopping

Go on the clockwise from Jokhang Temple, you will witness a general shop which is called Yixi shop. Shopkeeper is from Qamdo, a Khampa guy. What characteristic is that things are in various breeds; even a small coral bead and large triton, always there are special and various national clothes. Surely, the entire commodity price is fair, not only the tourists come to there for some souvenirs, but also Tibetans come for beads and headwear. Recommending the small bag, it is convenience for taking telephone and change.
    On the opposite of Yixi shop is Jacques lacan of Mindrolling Monastery, because of its special location, so it is difficult for tourists to regardless. Actually, it is one of famous temple in Lhasa, but I want to introduce its commodities about Tibetan incense of Mindrolling. As it is known to us formula of Tibetan incense is unique and historical. It is transported from main temple of Shannan directly. Price varies from different kinds.

If you are a girl who are interested in beauty, you should never miss the cloth shop which is located in east of Barkhor street. Babao shop is for girl specially; long skirt, Nepal skirt and garment, all of things are original. Also you just spend a little money but it is worthy enough. Put on a national and colorful skirt and then go shopping on the Barkhor Street, you must be the focal point. Surely, if you want to some other things, you must be not disappointed after you have gone shopping. You can go any one of the shops as your pleasure. Useful appliances such as box and washing things can be found easily. Take a Tibetan box for burning Tibetan incense at home; I believe it would be another special environment which is distinguishing from city life. Always, it must recall your memory of Tibet and Lhasa travel. 

     3. Delicious food

Snowland is famous not only in Tibet, but out of that land. What special characteristic is combination of Tibetan meal and western-style food. Surely there are Nepal meal and Indian Flying Cake. It is the place where the foreign people most like to get together. Fitment style of restaurant combines modern and Tibetan style. Roof ceiling is lucky eight treasures picture, light is western globular.  
     The first shop of Namaste is on Yutuo road, it is on same floor with Lhasa’s movie theatre. Shopkeeper is a Nepalese; peacock window, woodcarving lamp-chimney and multicolored roof reveals Nepal’s amorous feelings. If you mind its distance is too far, that is ok, there is another shop which is on a small alley from South Street to Jiangsu road in Barkhor Street. It is a Tibetan quadrangle dwelling which is with more Tibetan amorous feelings.
      Food breeds of these two restaurants are similar, also do price. Recommend yoghourt cake which just need you eight Yuan for one piece, chicken and mushroom Pizza which is 22 Yuan for one; specially recommend the burned chicken leg. Waiter always communicates with customer in English, so do not worry if you are a foreign friend. Surely, for Chinese, it does not matter if you can not speak English; food menu is with Chinese-English bilingual. 
      4 ，Chat in freely
     The predecessor of sweetened tea is English-style black tea; add sugar and milk into black tea, and then mix it. This form is one of the most important life style for Lhasa’s Tibetan. CangGu temple develop a school of its own among many sweetened teahouse, actually, it is relative to that it is a Buddhist nun temple. CangGu temple is always clean and tidy, so sweetened tea is delicious and pure; what is more, flowers are full in the garden. Price is cheap; it is just three Yuan for potful.  
    The historical Guang Ming teahouse is located in Dan Jielin road, it is the most original and historical teahouse. Most of the customers are local people, they chat and make jokes with each other; drink a sweetened tea when they are thirsty and eat Tibetan noodles and cake when they are hungry; it is a nice place to spend leisure time. It seems that it is only 0.5 Yuan for one cup tea, but be attention that waiter will make your cup full constantly, and you should pay for the cup one by one. So, if you do not want to drink, you should tell him in order to avoid paying more.
   CangGu temple and Guang Ming teahouse are traditional and historical teahouse. What is more, there is a Gangjian restaurant which is located in Tibetan hospital road’s nook. It combines function of Tibetan restaurant and sweetened teahouse. Also, the reason why I want to recommend it to you is that you can overlook the whole Jokhang temple square on second floor.   

 5. Affair

Makye-ame is a pretty nice restaurant, people who get there always expecting affair. As the most famous affair holy land, its yellow house and white tens have been the symbol of affair. If you enjoy tea alone still night but can not find a lovely people, it dose not matter, there is an affair hall for you behind Jokhang door.
    6, lodging

Xian zu island of Lhasa has developed a roost for trekkers and packsacks. Its characteristic is moderate cost and easy to find that.
